Here's how to get to The Pub...take "Ventura Highway" (by America)...exit...go one block to Ventura Boulevard...
This song was popular in the 70s...many mistakenly thought it was by The Commadores or Sly & The Family Stone...it was later covered by Vanilla Ice...this is the original band Wild Cherry in 1976 singing their original "Play That Funky Music (White Boy)"...(they sued and won a lot of money from Vanilla Ice by the way)...
OK...Here's a bar bet...you've seen the Jeep ad...."Rock Me Gently"...where the wolf eats a bird then spits it out...they're all singing...it's a Neil Diamond song, right? That's what I thought...turns out it was another singer...guess who it was?.....here's the ad...
Neil Diamond, right? Nope. Answer's below. But first...Neil Diamond doing "Cracklin' Rosie":
OK...So "Rock Me Gently" is up the same alley, right? The real singer is Andy Kim (real name Andrew Youakim). I'm not kidding. I had to look it up. And why did he change his last name to "Kim"? Why not change just his first name...to Dwight? Dwight Youakim...hmmm...So....How many adult children are alive today that were conceived during that song?...And both biological parents thinking that it was Neil Diamond the whole time? No wonder our country is screwed up. Andy Kim. The guy who wrote "Sugar, Sugar" for "The Archies". Here he is in 1974...(with 2 minutes left I thought it was turning into Lou Reed's "Take a Walk on the Wild Side")...one of the back-up singers is pretty hot...I wonder if she was the voice of Veronica when they recorded for The Archies:
Maybe Andy Kim wrote it for Neil Diamond and Neil didn't want to record it...He probably said..."Sure......I'll sing this.......as soon as you lose those 2 ear-rings, pal..." Of course Kim's still wearing them...Here's a more recent video...sounds a bit better......
This is so upsetting. Now I find out that Neil Diamond wrote "Sweet Caroline" about Caroline Kennedy....How old was she? 10? That's sick. I gotta go wash my hands again...
Here's Sweet Caroline...circa late 70's I think...
Apparently Sweet Caroline is quite the thing at Red Sox games...looks like fun...in the bleechers with your babe...7th inning sing along...you're happy...she's drunk...you're happy she's drunk...
OK...back to football...
